Disseration News …
Well, the hard copies of my dissertation have been submitted to the examination office at Stellenbosch. Yesterday, I sent several DVDs that will accompany the dissertation that should arrive within the next week or so. Hopefully, my defense will be scheduled for some time early next year. So, I guess that means I’m either a…

Why I read the NAB
It’s taken me a while to put up this link. But, I recently wrote a guest post at the invite of Chad and Rodney about why I read the New American Bible. I’ll sum up the main points, but I hope you’ll head over and check it out. First, I do not love the NAB. …

Jim's real theme song & the biblioblog rankings for November
Well, I want to start off by saying how awesome it was to meet many of you in person at SBL Atlanta about a week ago. But, sadly no one put two and two together and bought the guy who does the rankings a round at Gibney’s. I’m looking at you Scott Bailey … notice…

Of the making of many books there is no end …
I’m reminded of this line from Ecclesiastes every year when I visit the book exhibit at SBL. My favorite session so far at SBL was the applied linguistics session focusing on the new grammars of Daniel Webster and Jo Ann Hackett, though the session was far more heavily weighted toward Hackett’s text. The most interesting part of the session was the reviews. And, what made the reviews interesting was that two of…

Best part of SBL so far
The people … Caught up with Karyn and Daniel & Tonya a bit. Looking forward to doing more of the same tonight. Ran into a few folks from the Bible software consultation last week, Tarsee Li who helped me out majorly with some testing for my dissertation, and a couple of other bloggers. So much…

Leaving for SBL Atlanta
I’m Getting ready to board a train for Atlanta. I’ve been wrapping some things up on my dissertation and have been out of the loop. Leave me a comment if there’s anything going on I should know about. Or, drop me a line if you hang out for one reason or another. I’ll be at…

Teaching the Bible: Practical strategies for classroom instruction
I’ve used or adapted a couple of activities out of Teaching the Bible: Practical strategies for classroom instruction (free preview at Google Books) this semester. And, I have to say that some of them have worked really well. Yesterday, we used one of the activities on Proverbs where we constructed a set of proverbs as…
