James McGrath has Piqued My Interest in the "The Human Spark"
James has just posted about a show on PBS called the “Human Spark.” It sounds very interesting. Here is one of James’ comments: The irony is that young-earth creationists adopt an anti-evolutionary stance for the most part because they feel that evolution threatens human uniqueness and dignity. And yet this show was all about human…

Coolest Coffee Cup Lid Ever
I’m probably just way out of touch and don’t get out much. That’s probably why I haven’t seen this, but this is awesome. I hate those coffee cup lids that are like tabs or plugs. I always end up spilling coffee and/or burning myself.

Visuals for Biblical Books
Stephen Smuts has linked to some very cool looking Bible word clouds. Though I think that some of this may be translation dependent and some of it perhaps a little misleading to a somewhat uninformed person (e.g. “father” in Genesis is probably not talking about God as a father), I still think that do give…

Betting Most Churches Go with Zephaniah
Interesting … today there is a choice of Old Testament lectionary readings between Song of Songs 2.8-14 or Zephaniah 3.14-18. If most parishes are in any way like mine, I’m guessing they will probably go with Zephaniah. I think the priests in my parish know enough about Biblical Studies to recognize we do not so…

Around the Blogosphere (12/19)
I awoke to a number of interesting posts this morning. They were on a variety of themes, so I couldn’t call this a round up. But, here are a few that I read this morning that were posted either last night or early today: Jesus Kills Santa (via Joel Watts) I Just Don’t Understand This…

Endogamy and Exogamy
Today was the first time that the dictionary on my Kindle came in handy. I was reading Niditch’s War in the Hebrew Bible: A Study in the Ethics of Violence and came across the words “endogamy” and “exogamy.” Should have been able to figure those out based on prefixes and root, but it was early. …

A Nice Bit of Satire to Start Your Friday Morning
I’ve been watching this whole Daniel Wallace thing expand into a full fledged controversy over the last couple of days. And, Doug Chaplin has a nice bit of satire on the matter today. I would love to cite the post in full, but I also want you to click over to Doug’s blog. So, here’s…
