I now consider my seminary theological formation thoroughly deficient (though I consider my Biblical Studies training to have been excellent). Rather than reading Barth, we mostly read about Barth. Too much time in Spiritual Formation class I guess … Ha! I wish I had read Barth in Spiritual Formation. Anyway, for those like myself who might consider Church Dogmatics a little daunting, I think the book I have been reading, God Here and Now, is a really good intro into Barth’s thought (though it’s hard to see how I could know enough to make that claim). It is only a collection of short essays, but at the same time I am reading Barth and not just about him.
